EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) –
why do I use EFT in my psychotherapy practice?
EFT = Emotional Relief
EFT is a process of tapping on certain spots on your body (the same energy points used in acupuncture but without needles). The tapping process relaxes the mind and body while you are focusing on a distressing event, memory, thought or emotion. This EFT tapping process allows you to quickly get to the point where you can think of the event/memory/thought/emotion without it bothering you. Often this happens in minutes. As their emotional distress goes away, my clients report their thoughts are more clear-headed and often their attitude toward the person or problem changes.
Sometimes the EFT tapping process takes a little more persistence, depending on how many aspects of the event / memory / thought or emotion trigger you. However, we’re still talking about getting over your distress much faster than with traditional talk therapy alone.
Thus, I use EFT because it reduces the suffering of my clients more quickly and effectively than talk therapy alone. They “get over” their issues much faster, and with less pain. What else could I want?
EFT provides:
• Rapid relief from distressing emotions: anger, guilt, frustration, sadness, etc.
• No pills or chemicals or related side effects
• No needles
• You can test it for yourself without negative consequences
• It is easy to learn
• It only takes minutes to use
• It does not matter how long you have had this distressing emotion
• It does not matter how intense the distressing emotion is
